Practical Compassion
with Alan Sloan
a SoL Hu event
Connecting with others in a genuine way is at the heart of being human. However, caring for others is not always easy to do. Often, it may be difficult to give what we wish to give, or to receive what we want to receive. Since everything is constantly changing, we may feel “out of synch†with the people we care about. The struggle to connect with others can often feel frustrating and lonely.
How can we maintain fulfilling, caring relationships while everything and everyone is constantly changing?
In this presentation, we will be exploring the practice of mindfulness as a way to tune in to ourselves and to other people. Through developing awareness, we can discover our natural capacity for compassion, bravery and insight, not caught in habitual ways of thinking, judging and reacting.
When we develop genuine sympathy and friendship with ourselves, and can see each situation with clarity, we discover our capacity to skillfully care for others.
